In the marine environment, the corrosive action of salt water and its atmosphere is the constant factor to which only austenitic stainless steels, PH, duplex and nickel alloys can respond reliably over time. The use of special stainless steels in naval applications is increasing for bolts, tanks, pumps, shafts, flanges and fittings, manifolds, parts of structures, on-board components and steel structures: for naval propulsion, propeller shafts and submarines the use of e.g. mat.: 1.3964-1.4401-1.4418-1.4542-1.4580-1.4845-1.4462-2.4375-2.485; and for pipes transporting fuel oil, water, steam, for the cooling and lubrication of machinery, waste disposal the use of e.g. mat.: 2.4375-2.4360.
